Machine vibration caused by axis-movement acceleration/deceleration can considerably affect the machining accuracy and machining time. The ACTIVE VIBRATION CONTROL reduces the vibration for high accuracy positioning in all axes and the reduction of machining time. Since this function reduces tool nose vibration, high quality machined surface finishes are realised and excessive tool nose wear is prevented.

High speed machining will generate heat that may cause machine heat displacement. Compensation for machine heat displacement places a considerable burden on machine operators. The INTELLIGENT THERMAL SHIELD function automatically compensates the heat displacement in order to realise high accuracy machining over extended periods of operation. While the conventional heat displacement control function requires parameter setting by machining sample workpieces each time the environment or operation status changes, the INTELLIGENT THERMAL SHIELD realises high accuracy machining even when the environment or operation status changes by the advanced spindle heat displacement prediction system

High accuracy compensation for spindle expansion and contraction due to spindle operation has been realized thanks to the advanced spindle heat displacement prediction system that incorporates spindle speed commands - one of the main factors of spindle heat displacement.

Heat Displacement Compensation for Factory Temperature Changes

Yamazaki Mazak has performed extensive testing in a variety of environments in a temperature controlled room and has used the results to develop a control system that automatically compensates for temperature changes. For example the VERTICAL CENTRE NEXUS 410A-II realises machine heat displacement less than 8 μm in a room temperature change of 8℃.

Due to high speed and multi-tasking capability, when machine interference occurs, the expense required to repair a machine may be considerable. As a result, operators tend to move machines slowly to avoid machine collisions. To solve this problem, Yamazaki Mazak has developed the INTELLIGENT SAFETY SHIELD function. By using this function, when an operator manually moves the machine axes for setup or tool measurement, a synchronised 3D model is shown on the CNC display for checking machine interference. If any machine interference occurs, the machine motion immediately stops. Thanks to this function, a considerable reduction of machine setup time is realised.

The MAZATROL MATRIX verbally informs which switches have been selected and advises caution as necessary during manual machine operation. This function contributes to the considerable reduction of problems due to operator error. For example, when an operator selects the B-axis, the function advises, “B-axis has been selected. Please be careful about the machine interference,” when lubricants have to be added, the function advises,” please refill the lubricants,” and when tool life is about to the end, it advises, “the tool life is over,” for smooth operation.

The INTELLIGENT PERFORMANCE SPINDLE monitors a variety of properties with sensors housed in the spindle - including temperature, vibration and displacement - and provides useful information to the operator. Thanks to these data, machine problems due to the spindle can be prevented. Additionally, a considerable reduction of production loss due to machine down time can be realised.

The INTELLIGENT MAINTENANCE SUPPORT function monitors the status of perishable items such as filters, cover wipers, and the operation history of several machine units. This information is useful to determine a preventative maintenance program to prevent unexpected machine downtime. Additionally, when the replacement time is reached for an item such as a filter, a pop-up window notifies the operator to ensure required maintenance is performed.

If fixtures and / or workpieces are loaded on the machine table in an unbalanced condition, safe machine operation as well as turning accuracy will be affected. This function analyzes the balance of the table load and displays the amount of weight and locations that are required to eliminate the unbalanced condition. The same system will automatically stop table rotation if excessive vibration is detected.
