Spindle Repair
Refurbished Spindle Life
Machine tool spindle bearings are designed for extremely long working lives. There is no reason for a rebuilt spindle to give a shorter working life than the original unit if correctly rebuilt, tested and installed.
Spindle Failure
The enemies of spindle accuracy and long life are:
- Unintended Shock (machine “crash”)
- Damage to the Spindle main shaft
- Contamination in the lubrication system
- Over-demanding applications
Parts and Procedures
We only use factory bearings and greases to ensure that the critical pre-loads and interferences (measured in a few microns) are achieved. When the spindle has been rebuilt it is balanced on a NATA certified rig before being run-in on our PLC controlled spindle test rig. The spindle is exercised at different speeds to ensure that the grease is correctly dispersed within the bearings and temperatures are monitored to further verify that pre-loads conform to factory specifications.
Spindle Repair Facility Standards
At the John Hart Spindle Rebuilding Facility machine tool spindles are re-built to exacting standards, using the correct factory specifications, parts, and procedures. All metrology and assembly work is carried out in a clean-room and the almost obsessive attitude to cleanliness is extended throughout the entire Spindle Repair Facility workshop.
Re-Installation
Spindle Re-Installation
Once our trained and experienced Service Engineers return to re-install and re-align the spindle and have verified the correct operation of the lubrication system the machine is ready to be returned to production.
Re-built Spindle Failure modes
A re-built spindle may fail due to:
- Contamination (during rebuild)
- Use of non-factory bearings (resulting in incorrect pre-loads and alignments)
- Inadequate balancing
- Incorrect lubrication or greasing
- Inadequate bedding in
